RE: op sec thoughts
Porridge, is a great food for not smelling when cooked, if you make it with full fat milk and add dried fruit etc it is a highly nutritious meal. Onions are the one to look out for, as anyone knows the smell of cooking onions, and that smell means hot food!!!, I love curries but they would definitely be off the menu until I was damn sure it was safe to cook one. It is all too easy for people who live in our countries to formulate and idea of what starving people are capable of without actually experiencing what true hunger turns people into. I count myself unfortunate enough to have seen starving people first hand and the first thing you notice is the eyes, they are the eyes of a hunter totally focussed on one thing, hunger turns people into feral animals. When people experience this type of hunger the body puts all it's energy into getting food, their senses will increase and they will be able to smell things farther away than they normally would, or have had to, they will start to investigate every opportunity to get food, and ultimately they will turn upon one another because instinct cannot be controlled in the face of death.
