This is really good advice. A BALUN is certainly needed in many situations.
The reason I specified the MFJ 901 and 971 models is precisely for this reason, they both have an internal 4:1 BALUN that is permanently wired to the "wire" antenna terminals. My thinking is that these "boxes" contain pretty much everything needed to get an antenna matched to a transceiver or receiver. They are a safe, reliable and quick all-in-one-box solution. A KISS solution, that I'm sure TL will approve of :-) ?
High efficiency antenna systems are kind of the next step up. they are the ideal antennas, but can be more complicated to rig and tune.
