RE: The one hour meltown.
Very, very interesting read.

Its pretty much how I see the situation currently. As grandpappy said, I don't know how long we have.

To Binnie

The point to think about is, the situation in Greece is totally different from a total global financial meltdown which grandpappy is talking about. At least the Greek government was able to call upon the rest of Europe for help, which came, all be it not as fast as they would have liked.

When the global financial meltdown starts, there ain't gonna be anywhere to turn for help and their isn't gonna be any help coming over them thar hills. More likely an angry, totally disillusioned mob hell bent on revenge. A major critical difference.

Yes London is a different place compared to most areas as it contains the financial square mile. That area is powered separately from the rest of London. All they have to do is flick a switch and it will shut down all the banking systems throughout the UK. However, you only have to take a good look at the map of the UK to see where the largest trouble spots will be outside of London.

1. London - include outlying regions as far out as Guildford, Crawley, Dartford, Basildon, Chelmsford, Harlow, St Albans, Watford, High Wycombe and Reading out to a 40-50 mile radius beyond.
2. Liverpool - Manchester - Leeds - Sheffield dogleg. How many millions of people are in that area. It will be total chaos for at least a 40-50 mile radius beyond.
2. Birmingham - Coventry - Northampton. Expect a 30-40 mile total chaos radius beyond.
3. South coast - regions - a) Bournemouth, Southampton, Portsmouth (nicknamed South Coast City) b) Margate to Folkstone (include Ramsgate, Deal and Dover)
4. Northern regions - a) East coast form Ashington down to Darlington to include Morpeth, Blyth, South Shields, Newcastle upon Tyne, Washington, Sunderland, Chester le Street, Hartlepool, Stockton on Tees, and Middlesbrough. Expect a 30-40 mile total chaos radius beyond
5 Scotland - Mainly the band across southern Scotland from Glasgow to Edinburgh.
6. Wales - the band from Swansea across to Newport to include across the border to Bristol. Expect a chaos radius of 30-40 miles.

Those six areas contain probably around 60-75% of the entire UK population. When you add in the chaos radius that comprises a huge area of the UK. If you live within a 30-50 mile radius of any of those areas, I would strongly suggest ensuring that your preparations have bases outside of those areas.

So how long have we got?

Days?
Weeks?
Months?
Years?

Currently I am favouring Days to Weeks. If we are lucky and the USA gets through its current situation maybe months.
