A US made product I value highly is the Swack Shack, designed by George W. Jasper, former U.S. Army Ranger and chief instructor with the United States Rescue and Special Operations Group. Based on the British Basha, The Swack-Shack is 9 feet long and 7 1/2 feet wide! That's 67 square feet of cover! Enough for you, your gear and some firewood too! Just don't make any plans for a pantry; this bivy is made for those on the move and ready for the weather. The Swack-Shack weighs in at 1 1/4 pounds. It's constructed of 70 D Nylon Ripstop, #46 Mil-Spec Bonded Nylon Thread, has 3 loops of 1/2" nylon webbing along the center and 4 - 3/8" grommets along each of the two sides.

Thank you for your post!

Agreed, Some of the Genuine issue gear is few and far between.

That seems like a great alternative to what I'm looking for so I will definitely consider it in comparison to the DPM basha. I did manage to find a genuine British Army Basha although in Grade 1 used condition it looks a bargain for only £15! here's the link http://www.guardsarmygear.com/genuine-br...p-184.html
