most people have 3+ days worth of food in the house, the problems will start after that when they try to restock and find the supermarkets haven't had a fresh delivery, say a week before they get really worried, that's when the riots will start but by that time the supermarkets will be empty. no food in the shops and they've eaten all the food they had at home, that's when they'll really start panicking.
