You should give consideration to the poles roles
, if it was just as a walking aid then find budget priced stuff, but if its meant as a primary defence weapon is that cost saving worth it. Many members happily lash out £50 plus on a decent knife, more on a pair of boots, camping cooker etc so its all relative. One chap on holiday in the Pyrenees fought off a bear with a carbon fibre walking pole.
I mean YES Scythe would be correct if you swung a lightweight alloy pole sideways at someone it would bend, but I have seen attackers driven off by the judicious use of a pointy tipped folded up umbrella. but a reasonably price mid to good quality pole of a toughened alloy or thick walled construction could be bloody useful. Me if my effing back kicks off again I will defo buy the best one on the market.
