One quick word of note when using an alternator, you will need a bit of power to get it working and producing electricity (crazy I know), but a small AA battery or 2 with a bit of charge would be enough.

There are plenty of videos on youtube to show you how to rig up a pedal bike to an alternator, so the wiring of the alternator would be the same.
