As an "affordable" multi-tool the Gerber Suspension is good. OK, it's not a Leatherman, but it's less than half the price.

In truth, if I was making a serious bug out kit, I'd probably forget the multi-tool and pack a Morakniv, small Victorinox Swiss Army knife, and a pair of Maun sidecutters. This combo would weigh just a little more than a combi-tool, but the really useful bits - knife and cutters - would be streets ahead.

The most useful thing I carry now is my Swisscard.
