PA TV shows are handy to motivate kids
Dunno if you have struggled to get some of the concepts of prepping or prepping itself across to youngsters but I have found watching then discussing events in Pa TV shows like Jericho, Jerimiah and of late the Walking dead to explain concepts to the kids in my extended family. For example this morning we watched then discussed S2 E11 of The Walking dead on group security and situational awareness.

The show had to adress what to do with a still living outsider they saved, restored to health when they found out he belonged to a 30 plus strong, well armed bunch who were killing other male survivors and gang raping female survivors. The episode striongly focussed on the moral implications of how far would you go to protect your own people?, as far as killing the guy you had just saved?

The other bit which I focused on more was how Dale managed to get himself killed. First irrespective of the global disaster and fall of society Dale consistantly tried to retain his humanity and civilised behavour, he basically put his principles in the way of staying alive.
Then he was frequently spotted walking about as though on a sunday strol through Hyde park. EG when he was walking along the edge of the woods in the knee high grass he just sauntered along looking staight ahead ( anything in those woods could have jumped him, human, zombie, grizzly bear, wolf or other nasty parasitic predator like your average socialist). When he heard an unusual noise he did unsling his rifle but did not do a 360 visual sweep he just looked towards the source of the noise. Then instead of approaching the noise indirectly with his rifle shouldered and in a sweeping arc to do a full 360 he just sauntered over to the source of the noise (a heffer that had been attached by a zombie) and stood staring at it, then after many seconds he just turned around and walked into the zombie coming up behind him. That was a good easily analogy for the youngsters to grasp about OPSEC, Personal space, situational awareness and being aware of the events unfolding around them.

TV may be destructive and mind numbing at times but it can be a useful tool into making the kids think about the environment they live in today.
