A lot of the old CB channel 9 monitor groups used to use the old maritime rules of on the hour and half hour for 3 mins.
Those who were mobile used guard channels but you could call on channel 19 at anytime.
It was generally accepted practice that everyone went quiet when a 10.33 call was running with the two parties changing channel down to channel 9 as soon as possible.

Of course that was when people actually gave a damn about their "fellow man".
