Left alone or not?

Regardless of the process of the winding down of our current civilisation, I.E. how it happens etc... If you take for granted that the politicians will be protected by there own private police army and the majority of sheeples are long gone and we are all on a collective farm type place we may have set up.
Do you think we'd be left alone to get on with it? Or do you think the government will be as paranoid as it is now, about individuals that dont need the nanny state and move in to quosh a "terror cell" (us) before we pose a threat to them?
After all free thinkers are generally only allowed if you get told what to think by the state.
