there is no second place finisher
there is no prize for participation
they do not stop keeping score when the other team gets too far ahead
no one makes other people share
there is no one to stop other people from taking your stuff

The lack of one's ability to "know everything", be everywhere and do everything is the reason cultivation of a community or group is essential.

The reason human childhood lasts so long is because humans needed a safe and protected social group to teach them the skills needed for basic survival with specialization of skills evident even in hunter gatherer groups for over a million years.

It is even more necessary as the technology advances past the stone age level.
