Poly tunnels and green houses are also a bit misleading for the prepper/grower. They extend the climate seasons beyond what will be available "post event". Growing lush crops inside an artificial environment does not guarantee ones' skill in a guerilla garden hidden in the woods.

SHTF crops should have certain characteristics;

suitable for the climate
fast growing
hearty
low maintenance
high calorie/nutrition output
easily preserved without machinery or energy usage

But one can throw all this out the window if there is a good sized group in operation providing protection and a common labor pool. In that case one can put up the poly tunnels and grow any seed one has.
