What foods and why

RE: What foods and why
It is very difficult to predict any specific shortages due to the convoluted nature of the world political system at the moment.

Many of the countries that are producing heavily are blocking the export of any food items from their shores.

It is not just wheat and rice, it is also fruits and veg and meats of all types.

Shipping and production costs are due to cause the spoilage of product before it can ship, or make it too costly to ship. It will sit in the fields and rot.

The fertilizer problem is causing the culling of heards and the reduction of production over here and it is the same in most meat and poultry producing areas. If they can not raise feed they must cull their stock.

Most of the livestock farmers over here try to raise as much of their own feed grain as possible and the price of fertilizer is hitting them hard. Fertilizer is available here, but the price is astronomical.

Add to that the soaring fuel prices and not many will be running tractors 27/7 as is normal over here this time of year.

Someone on the board made reference to the lower fuel prices over here, but in some areas the price of diesel is close to $3 per liter.

You mentioned Brazil soy bean production being down but it is not just due to fertilizer. Brazil is in the midst of a fuel crisis at this time. Their fuel industry has caps on price and blocks on export so production has dropped to nothing. It is costing more to pump and refine than it sells for at the Brazilian pumps.
