RE: Ref Ukraine
More interestingly the Russians said they might consider dropping the Dollar as reserve currency. The USA is drowning in debt and their currency is looking very wobbly, dropping the Dollar would be more effective than any bomb.

you guys need to learn from the past. when german troops advanced in russia in 1941 they actually found the red army railroad carts full of military maps not only poland and germany, but also of france and spain. and red army had a battle units composed of french, spanish, german and all the rest of "soon to be revolutionised europe" speaking soldiers.
i bet you did not see this on the discovery channel. it is just shows who pays for the music...
it only takes to turn the gas tap close...

Interestingly, UK politicians have talked about importing gas from the USA if Russia closes the pipeline. Which made me think, who would gain from political unrest / war in Ukraine ? The USA would, through increased sales of their newly discovered gas reserves.
As they say, "follow the money".

An empty promise. If open war breaks out the Russians would make the wolf packs of Nazi submarines look like amateurs and virtually zero shipping would make it to your shores. It is their Black Sea submarine base they are protecting with this invasion.
Another nice anti-American try though.
The US population is against intrusion in this mess, except for Obama and a few of his ultra liberal cronies. They are being viewed as nut-jobs over here, and we have an election coming up in November.
Even the young liberal segment of our population realizes a war with Russia will immediately demand conscription of large numbers of young men and women, and that scares them $h!tless! The absolute last thing a liberal wants is to be drafted!
The US has turned this over to the EU and NATO except for the gum flapping.
It has been bumped from the top headlines over here days ago and now replaced by the UFO abduction of the Malaysian airliner.

RE: Ref Ukraine
I did read somewhere recently that if fracking/shale gas becomes a volume reality in this country any time soon that we (the UK) would be somewhat independent of the Russian gas pipe system for a good number of years. This would have the effect of holding our energy prices or possibly reducing them (?).
Hopefully it would be better managed this time than North Sea Oil - I am an optimist, possibly.

RE: Ref Ukraine
yep this Ukraine business has made it sound like fracking could be a good thing for the UK, it isn't and the politicians are lying to us as per usual.

RE: Ref Ukraine
From an economic standpoint shale gas is 'good'. However there are a few issues that have to be debated calmly and rationally. Personally I am on the fence - for now - on this one.
With regard to the Ukraine thing - I just hope these people can stop their constant squabbling eventually and do something constructive for a change.

RE: Ref Ukraine
unfortunately economics dosent take into account people or the environment, its all about the profit margin. as for Ukraine I think there is more to it than meets the eye and our govt should mind its own business.
