Tent, tarp or Bivvy
So we need to buy a new shelter for me and my partners emergency bags.
Do we go for:
1. A 2/3 person tent (we share the weight)?
2. A tarp?
3. A tent bivvy (e.g. Snugpak Ionosphere)?
Any thoughts appreciated.
Due to our life experiences and personal preferences we have a difference of opinion on this subject and seem to be going round in circles!
Many thanks.

Hi Erehwon, if just for a emergency bag a simple pvc bivie bag (one for
each of you) £3 each is a life saver in bad weather (3 hours without shelter
can be fatal).
For ordinary camping trips a good light weight tent especially if on foot.

RE: Tent, tarp or Bivvy
when I was backpacking I carried a light 2 person tent.
for emergency use I carry one of those pvc emergency sleeping bags and a foil blanket for each person.

As your in Britain if you get stuck your only looking overnight then should be able to find better shelter or head home in the morning.
So keep it simple .

Erehwon,
So many variables. What are the chances of you being separated? Where are you likely to be? Middle of Scotland is more of an issue than the middle of Westminster. How far will you be from shelter? Why is it you need to camp out at all? Most people drive from place to place and are looking for something to keep them warm if the car breaks down. If it in case of societal collapse then best curl up in your house and secure that.
I can understand why you are having difficulty getting agreement and we don't have enough information.
If it is for a true emergency then you both need to have your own emergency shelter. If you happen to be together you can share a tent or equipment. Food and something to make hot drinks. If in a car you can have a much larger bag than if it is one you have to carry daily.

Sunna, if you’re “stuck” out overnight in bad weather you could die....
...remember....”three hours without shelter”.... you don’t risk it for 3 quid.

Many thanks for the replies.
I have just tried to write a post that explains things and our thoughts but on reading it, it made no sense!
Will try again but just wanted to acknowledge your replies.
