You want to spread tthe load in the caches. I try and put several days worth of supplies in one. Food for two days, water for two days, toilet paper, a knife some fuel for the stove, maybe even a stove or a spade or some tools.
You don't want to have to dig up all your caches at once.
A lot depends on cache container, you bury a barrel say 2 foot you have to dig a hole 44 inch deep to meet that target quite a lot of effort, a tube type cache or what Scythe is using that would be an easy task.
My metal detector range is about 7/9 inch.

Agreed but you don't want them dug up by a dog or floated by a bit of rain. Some labouring is required.

Go for it. There's a hell of a lot of digging to do. It's at least twice the size of the average driveway, probably more. Also, you don't know where I live ;-P
I'm okay saying about some things, but there's a hell of a lot that people will never know.....like where I live haha

RE: Mini Cache Load-up
WOO! My small tub of protein, at work, is almost empty! Mini cache #2!!!
I think I'll end up modifying cache #1 and making them both more specialised. I'll spend more time planning them out, and things like that.
