Euro issues and preps
Some of the more enlighten than me types primarily some friends of work in London and two who work in a bank in tyneside say many people are cashing in their paper savings and buying gold, others fearing a complete collapse of the Euro cos of the Greek situation are buying loads and loads of food stuffs just in case. Closer to home a few of my friends who are preppers who also are more fiscally switched on than me are also stocking up on essentials and other commodities.

If the Greeks leave or get kicked out of the Euro I'll go and fill all my diesel containers and stock up my caches.

I feel personally that we all need to be watching the situation regarding the Euro, EU, the European socialists and the ever increasing numbers of desperately impoverished greeks, portugese, irish etc, it could all go tits up very quickly, IE in hours rather than days or weeks especially if the problem occurs whilst the stock markets are open.

It's common sense. Buy low, sell high. It'll line your pockets with the funds to buy better stuff.

I have a small amount of US junk silver dollars for bartering, but you cannot eat gold or silver so I tend to buy food or fuel instead.

Commodity trading in gold & silver is not particularily going to help you through the bad times and may in fact bring it right to your door! I would beware frequently mentioning in posts about trading in precious metals as it can divert new enquiring preppers away from what really matters. Precious metals should be low down on the list of priorities if at all. More of a profiteering currency market type activity. Could be ok if you got the spare cash and you are in the right situation PSHTF. It is getting to that good situation that is of more immediate importance.

That's a good point, well made.

I'm a capitalist through and through, as SD will tell you. So I'm doing the PM thing right now, incase this current financial 'blip' isn't the big one we're expecting. However, if it is, and other people have just this, they'll be screwed.

First and foremost, get yourself safe, secure, skilled, and sensible. After that's sorted, then check profits and capital gains.

On Sky News @ 14.44 they reported the greek, spanish, portugese and EU authorities are very worried because more and more people are withdrawing all their cash from their banks and either opening accounts in UK, Germany or UK, or just keeping the money at home, its starting to look like another rush on the banks like we had with Northern Rock.

Don't know if this is the right thread so I apologise if its not. Tonights news stated that 16 spanish banks have had their credit downgraded, this has also affected some of our banks. Good job I deciced to start putting extra to food, I also informed my son as soon as his money goes in he's to take the lot out as his bank is one that's been affected. I don't normally panic but I'm now worried.
