Post TEOTWAWKI Trading and Communication.
although im new it seems we have a pretty extensive community over here, so i got thinking about post end of the world and though, no one can specialise in everything right, and at the same time, we'll need more than we can learn to do, so i was thinking, if everyone on here has a different skill or speciality, we could all do some post apocalyptic trading! so if one of us is great at making cider or beer, he can trade someone else for some nice bows and arrows, or a knife, or some dried meat, or even some mediciines!

now i bet your thinking, well thats all very well and good, but we all got different bug out locations, and i really cant shout very loud! but there is an easy solution, we all learn ham radio! get a hand cranked generator or something, and then set a time we all listen/ broadcast to each other Smile....that way even if we're living alone, we still have some companionship, can still arrange meets, trades and other things, or even all form a community if someone finds an amazing place to do so!

anyways just a random idea, would be intrigued to hear what people would think Smile...i know im planning on getting a ham radio license for TEOTW.

Basically, this site was created to build an online community, for people to get to know each other and build relationships, So far I've met a few people myself who I feel very comfortable with. It may be difficult after an event to coordinate but we will set up what we can now and share what we can now. Information, knowledge and experience, being the easiest and most obvious.

amen to that dude, a sentiment i can very much relate to!...ive already started planning things with my best mate who lives in my village, once we got more of an income we can properly get the ball rolling, we've even found out how to grow tobacco plants and where to buy the seeds so that we can make post event life as comfortable as possible! (i also feel that tobacco will make a superb bartering item post event, alot better than almost everything else, so having a renewable source will be exceptionally valuable)

anyway the main idea behind what i was referring with the ham radio, is not necessarily regular trading or during/ just after an event co-ordination, but rather a set of frequency and encryptions and knowledge we can all gather now and then if/when we need to communicate the basic infrastructure would be in place.....i was even thinking about making a satellite o.O (got a few ideas of how to feasibly launch it) and although it wouldnt be particularly useful in some shtf situations it would long term in a teotwawki situation by extending range and facilitating

i'm full of crazy ideas like that xD...ive been toying with the idea of buying a cold war bunker for a while Tongue

Some members are into Ham Radio so we have been thinking about frequencies and schedules for a while now. The issue we get stuck on is OPSEC (OPerational SECurity) but we will get there.

A human being should be able to change a diaper, plan an invasion, butcher a hog, con a ship, design a building, write a sonnet, balance accounts, build a wall, set a bone, comfort the dying, take orders, give orders, cooperate, act alone, solve equations, analyse a new problem, pitch manure, program a computer, cook a tasty meal, fight efficiently, die gallantly. Specialization is for insects. [R.A Heinlein: Notebook of Lazarus Long]

A survivalist needs to be multi skilled, he needs to be able to fire a rifle to a high standard, deliver a baby, grow a veg garden, pull a tooth, navigate like Maggelan, care for livestock, operate a two way radio , drive a 4x4, improvise a cooker, diagnose and repair a vehicle, plan an tactical operation, write a report, be a diplomat, research a subject, be tactically and situationally aware, understand global politics, ride a motorcycle, be able to preserve a batch of food, act like a soldier whilst look like a civilian, be able use a knife and sharpen it properly. The survivalist truly needs to be a jack of all trades ( and in the case of NR be a great lover Smile )

Would be nice to see a published info sheet on radio frequencies and kit when you lot settle on eventually, so lesser skilled dweebs like me can just adopt that standard.

ah sweet! well in terms of opsec i do have some ideas, mostly coded things working on some of turings old ideas, nice and simple, but very effective, hmmm i could always make a little encrypt/decrypt program or something for us all xD....ill see what i can come up with...ill have more to say once i get the licence Smile

@NR well good sir i do believe you just summed up the nature of a survivalist better than ive ever heard anyone do so before, so for that ill shoot a +rep your way!...i honestly couldnt of put it better myself.

also going from that list, im surprised how much of that i can do already xD...still you can never have too few skills, as for a jack of all trades thats my member title xD ....lol NR you do make me chuckle xD
although i must say the most important thing for a survivalist to have is common sense! its the one thing that'll enable someone to do most of those thigns without being taught!

and after all "theres nothing common about sense"

I think the most important thing I believe is we must never except anything as given, we must question everything, challenge all assumptions, question all policies and make up our own minds.

and as they say "assumption is the mother of all f-ck ups!"

Common sense?? Isn't that like garlic bread or cheese cake... A complete misnomer of a hyperpotitudinal bodgit! I don't get it? Specialization for insex. Now thats appealing. Shame I'm only human.... (well part Neanderthal & proud of it) Neanderthal pride!! Big Grin
I'm bored.. Can't you tell. I will get back to serious posts in the near future..
