i was once on a particular forum, who's members reckoned that once TSHTF they were going to leave where they had been (comfortably) living and go and join a group, a group mind that had already had the foresight to set up and get running a solid survival base, they werent very impressed when i said if they approached a group(especially a RURAL group) that "they didnt know, hadn't worked with or been trusted by", they would probably be greeted by loaded shotguns!
Some people that prefer to be alone arent anti-social they just have no time for drama, stupidity and false people.

It could be said that "the long slow deterioration in living standards" really got underway in 2008 and that we are, at the moment, experiencing 'an event'.
My family unit has its choices made for it by age, medical conditions, static income (at best). We will have remain as alert to possibilities as we are able, try to absorb newer thought processes and adapt with what we already know and can do.
As things stand just now 'staying put' is our best option - making the place more secure where we can - building up supplies when the finances allow and generally keeping a low profile.
I have to thank all the contributors to this forum and the associated site for their thoughts as shared because this has enabled me to get to grips with things and get a more focussed perspective of where my family are right now and what the future holds if I do not do what needs to be done. Better to be prepared for something that might not happen than to be up the proverbial creek minus the paddle.
Best wishes to you all - keep the thoughts flowing.

For me I believe it started in 1997 when Labour came to office, as soon as they got power they scrapped mortgage tax relief, married mans tax allowance, raided our pensions schemes, sold of the nations gold reserves at a quarter of their value, started pushing up fuel duty and let council tax rises go mad.

Northern Raider you are correct the rot started in 1997 when Tony Blair came to power. Since that time my finances took a downward path. Thank God, I had the sense to see what was happening at that time. All of my preperations today are for the future. Every penny I am able to obtain is spent on prepping. Kenneth Eames.

NR and KE.
I have to agree with what you say, it would seem that the facts are indisputable. My reference to 2008 was somewhat personal insofar as it represents a 'tipping point' for my family in many ways.
The present bunch of 'politicians' inherited a real mess in this country. Depending how optimistic you are it would appear that some progress is being made but the real power brokers are pulling levers and pressing buttons which will make this activity a long and drawn out affair.
Right now my options are limted to think independent and be prepared.

I'm not optomistic at all when it comes to the global economy, The only optomistic bit in my life is Prepping is thriving and growing as more people see what is going on in the big bad world.
Yesterday the global economy cake once had enough ingredients to make enough jobs and wealth to keep most people with some prospects of betterment, the only wasted or spoiled ingredients was the much lesser drain the welfare state had on the cake mix.
Today there is simply not enough ingredients left to go in the cake to support everyone relying on it for a fututre, and the wasted spoiled ingredients have grown massivly. We in the UK need either a war to reduce the population, or we must pass a law insisting that 60% of all products sold in the UK must be British made. Neither is likely to happen so the rot will continue.
