Trapped by world and UK events
I am so sick of the political and financial posturing going on in the UK and our idiot neighbours the EU.
Everything is on hold, indefinitely because some group of rich Ba####ds wants to keep this mess going.

Because of them, the housing market has all but stopped so all my plans of downsizing to a smaller 'cheaper to run' hovel into the deepest darkest sticks is stuffed at this moment.
One of my mates has just given his keys back to the mortgage firm. No job for 11 months, no dosh left, in debt.
What a choice, sink further into the mire or move on.

I'm guessing but there must be loads of others who have all their dosh tied up in their house and are struggling to pay off mortgages with poor pay and dodgy job prospects.

SD's plans of moving are a case in point. Can't move because of his job.
In today's jobs desert, no one would blame him either.

Probably a case of shooting myself in the foot but I'd love the whole damn system to come crashing down NOW.

It won't of course solve my immediate problem or that of others but this long slow death is really getting to me.

We are getting very close to being in the same position as you Paul. House is negative equity, mortgage still over £100K, coming up on possible retirement, do we blow the lump some pension doofah on paying off the mortgage on a house that may keep losing value, do we try and sell it when no one is buying, do we hand in the keys and go bankrupt? ( If we do would the BS grab our pension?)

Paul you appear to live a very similar lifestyle to me, its so bloody hard just trying to stay still.

i would love to buy a house right out in the sticks...personally know of several that fits the bill..but cant move...cant sell cos we dont own itBig Grin property is owned by housing association....have some savings but not enough to buy a house or even some land....prices around here are the next expensive to London or so i've been told.

That's why I'm thinking of buying land/house with land in another country, Maybe I'm being optimistic but I don't think it would matter if said country is on it's ass, as I would be self sufficient and won't need much money anyway?
I want to grow my own food, raise some animals and have solar / wind power, Grow willow or some other fast growing trees for fire wood etc. Today, apart from the lap top, I will be not be using electric, I will be cooking on a home made fire and entertaining the kids in the garden, building a make shift shelter in case it rains, This is going to be a challenge but if I can't do it for one day, I will never be able to do it.

I believe that in the next few years any Brit with any sort of savings or pension is going to see them reduced or raided by the government, but its going to be compounded big style by indirect taxation which i think will go up much higher, I reckon VAT will go to a min of 25%, Fuel duty is assured to rise alarmingly but stuff like Stamp Duty, Inheritance tax, Council Tax etc is going to be ramped to to a level it will ensure no one dares protest or dissent cos they dare not get fined. Hopefully for some maybe Wales and Scotland will go independant thus giving a possible safe haven for some of us. But for most of us I fear for our survival purely cos of the cost of living.

I'm just so tired of it all.
A close friend recently told me that he is going to move his family into a narrow boat and rent out his home. Only way he can keep up with the mortgage payments now he is faced with losing his job.
It's inventive thinking but again, what a choice.
I'm amazed by what is going on round the country.
Trailer parks are growing like mad. I suppose TPTB will then be able to create another category of person.

yes, this country IS shot..has been so for several years..any fool can see that...i am sure TPTB know that too but they wont ADMIT as much....forget about the government, and the socialists, the trade unions, the bankers and the EU, its all coming down to the wire now-it just depends how long things can just drift along before it all comes crashing down.
