Fear creeps in.

Fear creeps in.
IF the middle East kicks off, I'm wondering just how fast it'll impact on us.
I'm not alone though.
I was talking to a group of pensioners last night and they started to talk about fuel prices, etc.
Winter is coming so I wasn't surprised.

Then one lovely old dear brought up the middle east.
It's still surprising to me how world events are watched by this age group but the conversation was startling.

Out of the seven OAPS present, they all expressed FEAR (I write that in capitals because that was the word used) in what is coming about.

They see it as fuel and food costs rocketing even if nothing happens.
Personally I think they are right but tacked onto the conversation was:-
1. The riots have taken place in Portugal and Spain AGAIN and
2. The Euro being propped up by just about every money lender from "Sid's loans" (I had to laugh at that one) to the World Bank leading to
3. Stocks and shares are rising.

As one acidly pointed out, "It's all building up to a huge fall".

Interesting to know that the older generation have a handle on things even if not a lot of people i.e. TPTB bother listening to them.

Consider this, short term the bulk of Europes winter foods like veg, fruit etc come from North Africa.
Medium term 90% of our oil comes from the middle east
Long term we have millions of pissed off muslims living in our commmunities and wishing us harm.

Like N.R. says look in the local supermarket at how much food is imported, fuel is likely to double at least so is food and all items made from oil...http://www.geography-site.co.uk/pages/citizenship/oil_products.html
It'd be like before the Romans came...One turnip or two with your parsnips for tea... and cabbage for dessert.
Better steer clear of my house, cabbage gives me wind...
I mean do we actually have any farmers left in England that know how to grow things without oil products???
I tried to be normal once.... Worst two minutes of my life...

not just your gran, i grew up in the 50s and 60s in a time before supermarkets....all our parents had store cupboards, our dads had veg plots and knew how to repair things, i can remember my dad mending his own shoes! i'm glad my parents arent alive to see the mess the country is in these days!
Some people that prefer to be alone arent anti-social they just have no time for drama, stupidity and false people.

Nowadays I shudder when I go up the tip or pass roadside skips and look at what folk throw away.
So much electronic stuff thrown away as it's cheaper to replace than mend which I probably could repair for pence. That's the problem being an old school engineer.

its not IF its a when it kicks off. The thing i am asked most is what date is the (when) and i reply anytime NOW ( before november ) what i am getting a lot of is people are waking up, they know something is up they just can,t join the dots up quite yet, the laughs i used to get are now a nervous smile and more questions ,so to save time i now redirect them to this site where better people than me can let em have it. bought a nice tilley lamp today from a second hand shop 8 bucks works great! for when the power go,s off .... with a bit of work its a stove as well SORTED

The major problem appears to be that though we and the elderly folk can see the tsunami coming over the hill our bloody government either can not or will not address it.

@ NR: I believe the government knows perfectly well what's coming. And not merely from foresightedness, but because it is complicit in it.
