Imagine
Just imagine if terrorists or even just bad weather caused half a doizen crashes like this one to cause total traffic chaos right across this little island, as a precursor to a major attack?

RE: Imagine
It doesn't even need to be a pre-cursor. This would be an easy, low risk and effective terrorist attack. Repeat until total chaos.

The best bit about it is that you don't even need to kill people to be effective.

RE: Imagine
do you mean just Motorways or some A roads as well?? in our case we would just dig out the maps(1 set kept permanently in the car) and find an alternative route using the back country roads & lanes.

According to the AA that puts you with the less than 1% of motorists who (A) Have a map in the car (B) Can read one © Can apply its information to navigation (D) Trust themselves to vary their route.
Course of a couple of truckers try the sdame as they so frequently do the B & c roads soon get clogged with stuck HGVs.

Just think if the A303 m6 area, M6 and M4 meeting points, M25 to A1and M1, Spagetti Junction area, M18 toA1m type areas got clogged during either a bank holiday or SHTF situation !!
What a wild time I had coming back from Exeter about 5 or 6 years ago , We chose to drive home to the Norrth East without touching a motorway and avoiding dual carriage ways when possible, Gosh it was hard and a 7 hour trip took nearly 15 hours. Worthwhile trying though cos its what persuaded me to put a mattrass in the van, porta loo, more water, more food, sleeping bags etc.

RE: Imagine
The best bit is in this mickey mouse country plod will help them by closing off lanes on the motorway because someone has a minor crash.

The bac roads would soon be clogged by the1% of motorists who know what they are doing and the 90% of motorists who think they now what they are doing.

Jane is an EXCELLENT map reader and any stuck vehicles are easy you just find another way around, there is always another way around. when we came back from the WG last year we came back across country via back roads, it took us less time than going down the A303 to Exeter and then down the A30 dual carriageway.

RE: Imagine
I'd like to add another idea to this situation.

A few years back there was a father and son team in America that were shooting people in the streets. The father had modified the car and the son was shooting from inside the boot of the car. That father and son team managed to get over half the schools shut down for 2 weeks, loads of people were not going to work, and loads of people were just plain scared to leave the home.

Imagine if that was the way they caused the car accidents. Modified car where shots couldn't be detected, they take out a few people driving their cars near a bridge. The reason for the bridge would be another sniper team up there taking a few people out as they sat in their cars. People would flee the area abandoning their cars.

How much longer would that hold everything up for? It would be pure chaos.

RE: Imagine
Min of three man team there. Three people you need to trust well. There would be more effective ways of doing that with people willing to kill. The question is though are they willing to die? Personally, I'm not but I'm not one for killing people for no reason. It would be easy for three people to very efficiently shut down vast sections of motorway. With access to explosives then it could be much longer term. If the objective is disruption then three people could easily do it very well. A very efficient cell but they would need to plan.
