RE: Threat of black outs
I think it's a fair bit of propoganda mixed with a little bit of truth.
in this day and age, the govt would never allow the lights to go off, decomissioned plants would be reinstated etc etc
as for a gas shortage....... LOL its been so warm this "autumn" that hardly anyone is using thier heating just now!

They'll just extend the operating life of the fossil fuel burning stations I suppose.
Or import more energy from the Continent.

RE: Threat of black outs
I don't think the EU will let them extend the life of the old power stations, they're already past their useful life, I expect TPTB will just IMPORT more power.....but what if that isn't possible(SHTF)??

that sounds a lot like the sheeple attitude "the govt wouldn't allow it", the govt will do whatever is politically expedient, even if that is to leave the rest of us in the dark!!

You're probably right BP. France in particular will be eager to create market conditions that favour its economy. Closure of fossil burners will have positive and huge benefits to EDF both from point of view of export of electricity from French nuclear powered plants, and also by increasing future reliance of the British on the EDF nuclear plants being constructed over here. Hinkley point is EDF I think?
And you're right relying on imported energy is strategically short sighted.

yes it is, they spent so long argueing with the govt over how much they will get paid for the electric when its built, it now wont be ready until 2022. they haven't even started building it yet.

The thread is about what are you going to do not what our incompetent government has done or is going to do. Get back on track.

RE: Threat of black outs
For this type of threat i've picked up a leisure battery, and a split charging relay, together with my 300w and 150w inverters i should be ok for most things.
