Definitely and absolutely NOT.

Actually the more I think about it I would say you are one of the few who keep trying to inspire tolerance.

If this is an offer to be able to turn the forum into a place of mutual respect, appreciate, and learning, then that is an offer well received, well awaited, and well accepted.

It'll be good to have a forum where people feel free to speak their opinions, and not be shot down by those wishing to maintain the status quo. Those status quo holders would still be welcome, and their input appreciated. However, their know-it-all-already attitude, and their unreceptive to new ideas and perspectives side would not be so warmly welcomed.

As a forum, we are but the amalgamation of the members. When member numbers drop, the forum (by definition) is weakened. However, when members of a forum slam other members, especially new members, ideas...that's when the forum becomes more than weak, it becomes toxic.

Having a negative attitude towards other members is not always conductive to a good forum. I am as guilty of this as anyone else, because of my dislike for NR. Even with that, I did give him credit when it is due, the same as him with me. We mutually hate each other, and I know I've managed to have a joke and a laugh about it, but still don't make it too personal (name calling and the alike is just not me) to cause a major issue. However, I think that even my own behaviour is not helpful in this kind of circumstance. But, having a negative attitude towards a whole section/division/category of people on the forum is even less helpful.

Therefore, if the 'other' or 'alternate' group is actually a group of mutual learning...I'm in on that and really looking forward to learning, growing, and developing my preps even more.

I understand and appreciate Scythes honesty and fortitude over the future of SUK and I hope it continues on whatever path is members decide.

Its still occasionally interesting and informative but my own efforts to gain knowledge and advice are now are focused elsewhere much of the time. But that's an very unimportant and wholly mute point, Its time the forum was allowed to stand or fall by the will of the bulk of its members. So let the others run the forum any way they like if it keeps them happy, who knows if they are lucky it will become nice and chatty and cosy and all sweet and nice like some of the other forums?

It's my experience that Ignorance and stupidity have no age restrictions at all.

You may be an OAP but that doesn't mean that you learnt one single thing during all those years - in much the same way that just because your idea is new and fresh, it doesnt mean it isn't a stupid idea

I don't judge people on forums by their age - but I do judge them by the content of their posts Smile

I have to say that this attitude by some who have only been on here 5 minutes that others who have been prepping for years don't know what their talking about,(especially when talking about a particular place they have never been) seems to be a British thing, you don't seem to see it on American sites, they are very polite by comparison and every opinion is valid.

Yep, every opinion is valid, (it's a shame some folk don't take that to heart) a younger person can be more knowledgable than an older one. Contrary to popular belief, age doesn't always bring wisdom. Niether does it give the old fart the right to ridicule and berate someone their jnr for having the temerity to disagree with them.

@LS +1 on everything in your OP.Smile

RE: Ageism: Oldies vs Youngsters
yes, but age brings knowledge, its called having had a life and experiencing lots of things, something someone just starting their adult life has not. I'm not saying younger people don't have knowledge, but in this age of specialisation that knowledge COULD be limited. we all learn as we go through life, the pursuit of knowledge does not stop at 25, 35 or even 45!!!

I'm not saying all older people are the font of all knowledge, although I know a few who would come under that heading, neither would I say all younger people are stupid, but there are a lot in the general population who again come under this heading too.

I'm off to the uncivilised wastelands north of the border , oh Ok I'm going up to Edinburgh in a mo prolly going to be knackered when I get back late on tonight, I hope the day passes peacefully and civilly on the forum and hope the anger and hostility fades away and the improving civility and tolerance from all sides continues. 99.99% of you really are good people at heart.

Lets all go with the consensus of trying to be nicer to each other, its more beneficial to cooperate and easier if we try and cut each other some slack.
