Eden
Has anyone else been watching the new series "Eden" on... forget the Channel? I'm torn between fascination at the unlikely mix of people, and sheer exasperation at what I perceive to be downright stupidity. Very watchable in a sort of "bang their heads together" sort of way.
The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing.

On paper the skill mix looks good but the psychologists who interviewed them have picked a right bunch no doubt to boost viewing figures when it all starts to go breasts vertical.

The old army phrase, 'All the gear and no idea' sprang to mind when I saw the first episode...still its better than Celebrity Big Brother...that said this series is really just Big Brother gone camping in Scotland lol.

RE: Eden
As usual nothing to do with a true social experiment everything to do with viewing figures, only got half way throught the first program and turned it off.

For me nothing has beaten the 1970 documentry living in the past.

Shame that it cannot be translated to the modern era.

in a real life or death situation none of this lot will last 5 minutes never mind 12 months.
stuff needs to be done straight away not wait for some group meeting to sanctify it, "too many chiefs and not enough Indians!""
Some people that prefer to be alone arent anti-social they just have no time for drama, stupidity and false people.

There are no chiefs, just a bunch of Indians without guidance. Some situations means there is no room for decision making by committee.

Hi, i'm watching Eden too. I also like 1000 years bc, both social experiments fascinate me.
Those that state there should be no discussion or meetings on what should be worked on next, are the ones that just cause trouble because they think that only their way is correct. None of us know it all and if a group survival is to be even a partial success, everyone needs to adapt to the new situation.
Some take longer than others as we can see, together with the lack of food and cold weather can push even the hardest people to the edge.
Women seem to do much better than men in all these situations, because the lower muscle mass can last much longer than a man with less food. Together with women generaly allowing their frustration and emotions to flow. A bottled up male always explodes or implodes with disaterous results.
I try to learn from these shows, and I think its a great way to understand a live group dynamics at work.
It seems that the hardest part of survival in a group is to learn to adapt to the new dynamics, and accept that everyone else is also in the same boat.

don't base your survival on tv shows or movies, these are not survival based but are reality shows, its all about tv ratings and number of viewers, not survival.
its not so much interesting what these people do, but what they DONT DO.

As I said earlier "On paper the skill mix looks good but the psychologists who interviewed them have picked a right bunch no doubt to boost viewing figures when it all starts to go breasts vertical. "

In theory, with a leader and the personal skills available to the 'team' it should be a nice twelve month 'Jolly'...can't see it lasting a year though. The girls all look great, do they have solar powered hair dryers and access to make up?
