I was thinking more of making fuse, etc., rather than curing meat. Kenneth Eames.

See, told you SD. Cannon came from the Canon's wee wee.

You can always just mix glycerine/saltpeter, with the upper skin from heated fat, and guess what.......it's a really fast burner! Maybe even an explosive!?!? Did someone say that was TNT? No, I never said that.......but it is.

RE: Tinderless fire
And that is how prisoners do it.

Maybe we need to have a competition playing with these things and see who has the most fingers left at the end of it. Smile

Kurt Saxon, the man who it is claimed, coined the name Survivor, blew three of his fingers off making improvised explosives. Keep your formulas safe, but do not use them until absolutely necessary. I mean this, many of these formulae are deadly. Even in the Manufacture of Legal explosives, Munitions works have many accidents, some are minor but occassionally there is the Big Bang. Do not play with fire unless you have been trained to make Improvised Explosives. Kenneth Eames.

RE: Tinderless fire
Catch 22. If we don't practise now when we can do so under a controlled situation then we are more likely to get it wrong after TDHTF. On the other hand many of those formulae are wrong which makes them dangerous to begin with. What to do?

This is the problem that we hit all the time. Do we collect what we can, formulae and ingredients, and then find they don't work or do we take a chance and try them out and put ourselves at risk now.

This is the catch 22 a nanny state puts you in.

It is legal to purchase Pyrodex or other similar non black powder propellents - without a firearms licence. It lasts reasonably well if stored correctly and is safe enough.
A small unconfined amount can be used to start a fire. This was commonly done with black powder in days gone by. It is also useful for other applications.

So who sells that? Allmy powder is bought from a firearms dealer.

RE: Tinderless fire
Yes, it is sold at the gunshop, but anyone over 18 and not looking like a chav can buy Pyrodex or one of the similar propellants without the need for a licence. It is not classed as blackpowder or a nitro propellant and the laws are different. You would need good cause and a reasonable story to justify your purchase and the gunshop owners will not sell to chavs etc. If you know what you want and have reason then you can purchase it without being interrogated. Your name & address by ID may be entered in a logbook by the shop attendant. This is not out of the ordinary and does not mean your details will be flashed to the authorities. It is good practice as all propellants have chemical ID markers imbedded and so those found during forensic examination at scenes of crimes can be ID'd back to the original batch and so the market chain can be followed. So don't go committing crimes with it & you will fine. The ability to purchase these substances without a licence is kept low profile for good reason - bit like us. TL. (It is not black powder and so explosives laws do not apply. You do not need an explosives storage box or secured location. Be sensible though!)

Why thank you for that. Next visit I'll be asking about that.
