i used to have a really old phone and its antenna snapped off, so it could almost never get signal, but if i got a load of tinfoil, made it into a long tube, stuffed it in the antenna whole so it touched the antennas conductors i got better signal than anyone i knew! simple bodges are the best ^^

Best ways are the simple ones.
When I'm getting bad reception I just stand by a telegraph or power pole that has a wire going into the ground or by touching the aerial to a barbed wire fence.
Touching the coax on my CB set works too.
Else I go for height, more height or even more height!
