Most jobs up here are now public sector jobs, we dont make anything any more, so with this recession the jobs in the public sector are going. This just adds to the fact that this is already one of the poorest parts of Europe. 2.4 million northerners trying to live of an economy that will only systain 500,000. I was in Jarrow and South shield the other week, it was never a rich area but there was work, and pay and the locals were quietly dignified at getting on with life. But now you see degredation and desperation that has not been seen since the Jarrow march, and that scares me.

If the Geordies, Mackems and Smoggies find a figure to rally behind, a leader who is a statesmen and agressive I can see massive trouble brewing.
