RE: To All Radio Operators.
Paul, I haven't time to review the You Tube video to see if it was 1/4 wave or 5/8ths. Can you confirm the three critical lengths for a 5/8 version made out of RG58? Maybe start a separate thread for this so that it can be more easily found in future?

And just for you LS

Basic Calculations for 1/2 wave bazooka.
Center freq use 27.6 to allow Euro and UK use.
For UK use 27.9

VF for common coax
RG58 poly and rg8 poly 0.66
RG8X 0.78

Calcs for 1/2 wave:

OL= 15000/center freq in mhz
answer in cms
LS= VF * (7500/center freq in Mhz)
answer in cms
TS= OL-LS in cms

1/2 wave calcs for RG58:

Overall length 543 cm (Mine 540)
Lower section 179 cm (Mine 180)
Top section should be 364 cm
But I always find it too long and trim back.

Mine is always cut to 360 cm for optimal UK use.
Not perfect but close enough.

CAUTION, don't use over 75 watts through RG58.
Things will start to glow in the amp if you don't SWR in better than 1.3:1

I don't think it's worth starting a new thread LS, the take up won't be that much.

For any bacon reading this.
The calcs work right the way through HF to VHF BUT over 300Mhz everything gets "twitchy" if you are slinging this style of aerial into a tree. In other words you'll need to use a combined SWR/ATU box. That'll teach you to play with high numbers.
