Advice going forward - how to begin with Wind power Generation.
Hi.
I wish to go about experimenting with my own off grid wind power generation. I have a large enclosed garden with room to conduct this experiment but as it is my first time in this venture want to do this to gain experience and there after expand the process further. I am a very practical person, very hands on but lack the knowledge to do so.
If you have any information as to how I go about this little project, I would love to hear from you.
What I have in mind at present is small scale, Car Altenator, PVC Piping, some deep store batteries and a DC - AC inverter to 220v. Hoping that once I have the basics under my belt I can upscale ffrom there.

Dave dunno if its still there but one of our missing members has some excellent videos on you tube about his experiments at off grid power supplies , He goes as Wet & Cold and he has a channel.

An excellent book is Do It Yourself 12 Volt Solar Power by Michel Daniek

And maybe of of the other members downloaded his posts which I forgot to do they really are first rate.

The car alternator isn't generally recommended in the DIY wind turbine world. I'm not entirely sure why I think it's a combination of poor efficiency and not desierable speed (you need to gear up between the turbine and the alternator).

Another good online resource for DIY wind power is http://www.otherpower.com/

Me and the wife are getting our own place soon....hopefully.

I'll be experimenting with alternative power soon too.

Will post everything new and interesting up for you on here.

There is a very comprehensive site at http://www.free-energy-info.co.uk which probably has more on it than you will need for any energy project. There are a lot of links to all sorts of stuff - and its all very educational too. Hope you find this useful.

Already started with the alternative energy in our new home. Looking at a small wind turbine during the next year.

Wind is hugely inefficient though :-(

If you are starting on a smaller scale,... why not look into the wind power systems that are fitted to boats, most yachts have these systems,... I was going to look into them myself
