Universal Callsigns
Is there any plans to set up universal callsigns for every suk member that can be used on cb and pmr so we at least know who we are talking to if shtf and more importantly then we at least know they are genuine members of suk and not just random people who have a radio

RE: Universal Callsigns
Not that I am aware of, maybe the technogeeks will develop some other new and complicated system to baffle ordinary folk even more Smile Only joking. More seriously whatever it come it with it wont cover EVERY member because according to the PMs I've been getting more than a few people are doing their own comms programs or not bothering with radios at all because whats on offer is so far removed from "SIMPLICITY" as possible.

RE: Universal Callsigns
I suggested this is another thread.......

"If we were to agree there was to be some kind of area coordination then we could issue a call sign for a particular "member" who is acting as a coordinator for say a county and arrange a watch rota. We could then sector that down (say, in the case of London, Borough coordinators) because we ain't going to be going far from 'ome are we? and have sector coordinators with associated call signs and in fact any member of our group could have, upon request, an issued call sign that we publish and is available to any one on here so if we are away from home we can identify ourselves and solicit help from willing members.

The call signs could take the form of 3 letter County ID and 3 digit member ID, coordinators could have any triple number for easy recognition.

This is my attempt at listing each country call sign using the standard 3 letter abbreviation from the logistics fraternity.

County, Call sign, Coordinator
Surrey, SRY111, MikeAlpha

So I would identify myself to any SUK member as:

Sierra Romeo Yankee triple one MikeAlpha listerning on PMR Px or LDP Channel x (where x the channel number).

I'm sure you'll get the idea......

If a "communication manual" was kept with your radio/s anyone finding it or wanting to use it in your absence would have the info to hand. All they would have to do is look up the county they are in and make a call to one of the listed coordinators or other members.

Just an idea to kick things off."

There are a couple of "specialist" radio groups out there that have recognisable call sign (like mine on CB site "Charlie Tango" 26CT898) and lets face it the ham fraternity have been administrating issued call sign for decades so it does make sense.

I'd be happy to administrate if it's a go

RE: Universal Callsigns
its an idea however i think it just needs to be very simple without county callsigns as some preppers bol are in totally different counties , so something like suk1 , suk 2 etc should be suffice ,

eg sierra uniform kilo 1 calling any sierra uniform kilo set

obviously a data sheet we could laminate with member names and callsigns so we could identify NR for example as sierra uniform kilo 4 who maybe calling

You wont hear me on any frequency, channel, band I'm afraid, I dont want any part of a sytem so grossly overcomplicated as the one thats being developed on here. When technology catches up with what is needed I'll start working on a local system that meets my small groups needs, at the moment the kit is just not up to the job so we will continue quite happily as we have for years with alternative comms systems.

There are plans but as you can see not everyone is going to join in so it will be a bit hit and miss and we need to make sure that there is validation as well. Still a lotof work to do because just setting up a radio band and saying talk is easy validation is a lot harder.

OK so the masses stick with the PMR channels 1-8 and a BT Highway - it don't come much simpler equipment wise than that - as for validation, that IS a different kettle of fish especially on an open forum......

so we go with SUK 1 - xxxx the way I see it, the easiest way to validate a member of the group would be to choose a word in the S-U-K call sign that is obscure and only known to members, so instead of sierra uniform kilo we have say, sierra urbicide (means, destruction of a city Big Grin) kilo, and always stick to that until we suspect an "intruder" then just change the word a circlet to members.

you may not want to be NR but having a callsign for yourself wouldnt harm you , say if you and your group needed a medic or something at least people would know who you are and you would know who they are Smile

not that i'm taking any part in this-its all a bit over my head, but why dont you just use your SUK names for a callsign: i.e. "Northern Raider" calling..."Big Paul " calling..."Prepper 1 " calling etc.etc., or is that too simple ??
