Should a walking stick be part of your survival gear ??
or more to the point maybe a walking STAFF!! http://www.survivalcommonsense.com/shoul...stickfeed/ a walking stick isnt just for old people!!!! 
Some people that prefer to be alone arent anti-social they just have no time for drama, stupidity and false people.

Sometimes take a telescopic one with me when i have to visit dangerous cities, i just dress like a backpacker and carry the walking pole.

lol,.. I thought for a long time that hikeing with a stick was for softies, and that they had no place in my equipment..... but for a while now, I have realised just how important they can be, I always have a stick with me when I am on the hills,...and it has saved me a few times
...and of course in our situations, a good stick is a fair weapon,...I use one I made myself from Hazel, I am not comfortable with modern extended ones
A major part of survival is invisibility.

when i was on my" Fungus Foray" course last year, i found a staff very handy when slipping and sliding in the woods, without it i would have landed on my backside more than once ! i have seen Ray Mears use one when fording a river.

Hmmm wonder what the regs would be on that then.
What'd be acceptable to carry as an aid and not be classed as a weapon?
I tend to think if as the guy said in the article if an old lady had a 7 foot quarter staff it'd be seen as empowering, but what about me...
White 6 foot 16 stone plus skinheaded, tattood male...
Bout 5 mins before S019 turns up maybe...
ok for the countryside I think but maybe not city use.
I tried to be normal once.... Worst two minutes of my life...

There a useful tool. Dnahoghunter on youtube made one that disconected and had a bayonet inside the bit that came iff had lead to weight it. So his walking staff was also a spear/club or preist

I'm thinking of getting one....having wood is always good, even if the shaft is twisted and the end all knobbly and warped.....I like Hawthorn best.

Nice pole, but I dont think it would be for me, its too long for my comfort, I prefer a sort of ski pole size,... but it does have a couple of nice features, the couplings are the same as you find on chimney sweep rods,...mmmm I wonder????
