RE: Post TU Comms and Networking
Lightspeed, here in the US we have the "National Traffic System", a group of long-established amateur radio traffic nets that pass traffic in cases of emergency. These nets are on the air daily and some have been around for 50+ years or more. The 7290 Traffic Net meets daily, Mon thru Sat in the mornings, and again Mon thru Fri in the afternoons. Their website has down-loadable training materials and message forms compatible with Windows Excel and can be found here: http://www.7290trafficnet.org/

There is also the Daytime Texas Traffic Net on 7.285.00 which meets daily in the mornings, Mon thru Sat: http://www.daytimetexastrafficnet7285.org/

as well as a cluster of maritime nets on 14.300.00. Their website can be found here:
http://14300.net/

and the Hurricane Watch Net: http://www.hwn.org/ , which operated only when a hurricane is about to hit the US.

A list if Texas traffic nets can be found here:
http://www.arrl.org/arrl-net-directory-search
or you can go to the ARRL website and search for a net in your state or region here: http://www.arrl.org/arrl-net-directory-search

Meanwhile (like this week) an SOI for after SHTF has been published jointly by AmRRON and TAPRN.

Signals Operating Instructions

Here in the US, the American Redoubt Radio Operators Network (AmRRON) and The American Preppers Radio Network (TAPRN) have combined to publish a Signals Operating Instructions (S.O.I.) for the SHTF situation of your choice. It's 40+ pages and seems to be quite well thought out and comprehensive. This S.O.I. covers not only amateur radio, but CB and other radio services as well. The cost of a PDF download, which then can be printed out, is $1.99 via Paypal - quite reasonable in my opinion. If you all don't want to re-invent the wheel for the UK, or even if you just want listening times, bands, and frequencies for "the former colonies", this is worth the price!

Go here to read all about it:

Hope this helps!
