Are 3 day BOB's obsolete?

I remember a conversation we all had about a year ago where the subject got on to making a BOB provide the equipment for survival in the wilderness, nearly indefinitely.

Really interesting stuff.

For me, I've taken the perspective that a BOB is to provide a simple survival system for up to 7 days, but with the equipment to harbour 3 months of survival or more. Like fishing gear, hunting gear, temp shelter that'll last long enough to get a good solid shelter up or to find a good shelter to move into. Plus sleeping gear.

The 72 hour BOB, should be the basics, and we need to learn the skills to make survival for a longer time, much more easily facilitated.
