Smile  Budget 2 Camera CCTV System - Monitoring Only
I'm hoping this may help anyone who wants to monitor their premises with a half way decent outdoor cctv system utilising two cameras but doesn't know what to get. There's also an option for powering from a 12v leisure/car battery if the mains goes down. I've had a look around and, for those on a tight budget, this should do the trick. I've tried to match this lot up so that you're not caught out with having to buy additional adaptors etc. This is assuming you have basic DIY skills with basic tools and can run a cable. Obviously I can't personally guarantee any of this stuff.

What you need:

- two high resolution 1/3" Sony CCD chip 20m IR cameras for outdoors £39.98 delivered here - these should be good quality vandal resistant cameras

- two plug n play 20m cables with adaptors for video and power (longer/shorter cables available if required) £11.99 delivered here

- one cctv 12v 5a psu with 4 way splitter for powering 2x cameras plus monitor £10.99 delivered here

- one 3.5" monitor (I demo'd one of these at a NW meet) £17.99 delivered here Exclamation(NB/ error in price as I bought mine for £17.99 last year from same supplier!) Exclamation

- one 3 way av switcher £3.09 delivered here

I know you can find cheaper stuff direct from China/HK etc but I would caution against that for several reasons. I've tried to pick only UK suppliers with reasonable feedback and with units that appear best spec for the money.

BTW, you don't have to buy this monitor, you can use one of your TV inputs instead BUT this little monitor is 12v so can still be used in power outages.

This lot should only set you back about £85 delivered.

All of this is 12v based but the psu (power supply unit) is mains powered. If you want to make it usable when the mains is off, then you'll need to buy this 4 way adaptor for £0.99 delivered, cut the main input off, identify the polarities and attach a couple of croc clips here (£1.94 delivered), so you can clip straight to a 12v car/leisure battery. Polarities must be observed so if in doubt check with someone who can help. Obviously you'll need a suitable length of normal flex cable (0.75mm is ideal) too. Oh, and something to connect the flex to the splitter (small block strip connector 5a min £1.50 delivered) here. An alternative to the croc set up is here for £5.90 delivered which gives you some cable already attached to the clips. See photos below:

I'm happy to answer any queries anyone might have with setting this stuff up.

Enjoy! Cool

Two images wouldn't post (already reached the 10 image limit) so they're here:

NB/ - I've queried the monitor price of £117.99 and got a reply this morning. He's sold out and added £100 to stop anyone from ordering until he gets more stock in. Rolleyes
