RE: feel safe...?
Much less safe overall, but locally much much safer after we moved out of town. But with police credibility nose diving, Islamic extremism flourishing, Eastern European gangs being made welcome, criminals appearing to have better access to guns, increasing civil unrest, failing social cohesion, Russian sabre rattling, Mass immigration overwhelming public services ( just been told its 2 weeks before I can see my GP), and its been four years since the minority communities found an excuse to riot. The risk from the EUSSR etc

The police are wrong, why? That because the police have been twice reported recently to have been either fiddling crime figures or not recording them at all, AND more and more people simply no longer bothering to report crimes to an ineffective police.

If you check the Home offices and polices reports for the last 25 years about falling crime using their own figures we should be living in a crime free paradise. When the cops are questioned about their effectiveness they always say crime is coming down, but come wage rise time they say crime is going up and we need to hire more of em and pay them more.

But that signature I have been using recently I think sums it up, " When you only have SECONDS to live its no comfort knowing the police are only MINUTES away.

I wont answer the last bit because that would trigger off another political clash on the forum and the thread could be closed.

RE: feel safe...?
I would feel less safe if I still lived in my old neighbourhood (city suburb) but I feel very safe where we live now, low almost no crime, most of the time its so quiet we could(almost) believe we had no neighbours. once you get out of the cities(Devon only has 2) and the larger urban areas then the crime rate falls away, we don't even have farm crime here which is unusual for rural areas-probably cos they are small family farms.

Dev the crime statistics are those provided by the police and home office, they have been discredited.

The crime figures are simply not worth the paper they are written on, Locally over a couple of night 7 garages were burgled around here, its been recorded as 1 crime.

RE: feel safe...?
Like BP, I have no concerns.

Even though I'm close to a town of around 15K people (big for Devon LOL!) I'm in a quiet peaceful area, crime 'is' low to non-existent and I'm often out walking the dog at between midnight and 1am and I never feel uncomfortable or worried.

My biggest concern is nosey neighbours, although in themselves they are all fine and good neighbours.

RE: feel safe...?
well I had a cop car in the street last week most unuseall cop ended knocking on most of our doors , somebody tried to break in to the house over the road [damaged the back door lock] , did I see or hear anything , he then asked who do you think would do such a thing .
I gave the same answer as all in my street the chap who had just moved out [ nightmaire druggie , drug dealer 24/7 in and out shop].

he moved out because everybody hated him and some reported him to landlord .

good point nr about cops , crime is falling ,until wage rise time.

I have lost all respect for our cops

apart from above my village is quiet crime free , but farm crime has hit the local area hard , logs , bales of straw , red d , general farm equipment , lambs /sheep.

what would stop it ...tougher security .... then they just move on to the next soft target.
red d is the big one , on my daughters estate their are guys who sell 5 gall drum of red d for £15 they are very bizzy , this took off when the new laws on scrap came in ie id bank account [no cash] .

RE: feel safe...?
we haven't had any real crime in the area for at least 3 years, there was some lads in a rented house who had a visit from the local plods and subsequently moved out and on. someone nicked the chain from across our drive but it was carnival week so it was probably a visitor. apart from that its pretty quiet and peaceful most of the time, as I type there is no sound from any of the neighbours, you really could hear a pin drop!!
