Over 20% of money generated in London goes to subsidise the rest of the UK. London is keeping us afloat.

No Steve that's a fallacy, What actually happens is most of the wealth creating jobs in manufacturing, farming, industry, fishing, tourism etc are spread right across the UK but the companies registered offices are located and registered in London, EG Royal Royce makes jet engines in Derby and cars some place else but their Head Office is in London where its returns are recorded thus the profit is shown to be made in London.

The much vaunted money markets of London they say creates the wealth of London is the banks taking in all the money fro the entire countries savings, current accounts, pension schemes etc where they lend it out to others.

As I said above the rest of the country could survive very easily without London because London does not provide ANY of the ESSENTIALS in life we can easily live without CURRENCY or the "wealth" London creates ( but consumes) but the;

FOOD
WATER
FUEL
CLOTHING
BUILDING MATERIALS
AGREGATES
FISHERIES
CHEMICALS
VEHICLES (Land Sea and Air)
DEFENCE
MEDICAL SUPPLIES

ALL the essentials of survival are made far from London, so wipe out London and the rest will still keep going.

Now imagine if the rest of the UK woke up one day and decided it was no longer going to be held hostage to the London centric government, tax collectors and ruling elite we we stopped sending in commuters to run the services, stopped sending food, fuel, water , electricity etc, stopped taking out Londons sewage and rubbish, London would go down in an hour but the rest of the country would survive.

Its the Farmers, Fishermen, Power Station Workers, Water Workers, Weavers, Chemical Workers, Train/ car/ plane makers who keep the country alive and they are all far from London.

Barney you don't need MONEY to survive you need food, water, heat and light, A lot of people have been brainwashed into thinking London CREATES the wealth it does not, people think the bankers create wealth they do not, bankers take in the deposits, savings, pension funds and money that people from across the whole country deposit into the banks, and the banks then lend it out again to others charging interest, then they cream of a chunk of that interest for themselves and that is what they claim is the wealth they create.

But the banks are utterly dependent on everyones current accounts, everyones pension companies savings, every shops daily takings, and the profits from the whole countries WEALTH creating sector which is mainly MANUFACTURING and most manufacturing, farming etc is done OUTSIDE London.

On top of that the London banks are totally hostile to the new small local banks, cooperatives, community trusts and local savings and loan schemes because if they succeed and grow like the original cooperative system did then their London centric influence will be reduced ( but not broken of course)

So if London goes tits up, theoretically I have say fuel in the form of stored petrol and diesel and kiln dried fire wood, and my Mrs has good medical skills. Lets say Barney has access to fresh fish and wild caught game and his wife has a garage full of preserves, pickles, jams and dried meats. Steve has rolls of cloth, cooking pans, cutlery, crockery, candles and his wife has a working foot operated sewing machine . We Barter if London goes tits up until an alternative springs up.

Why because all the regional and local banks will eventually reopen, Most banking data servers are outside London, Most Building societies have regional roots to monitary system will re-establish itself with local and regional groups.
