the vast majority of the population are "4 generations removed from the land", they neither know where their food comes from or care, they are incapable of providing any food for themselves should the commercial supply dry up. as for modern technology I think the main common denominator is electricity, it either needs power to run it or power to recharge it, when not if the power grid goes down it'll be useless, of course most people think "it'll never happen" and are therefore unprepared...for anything.
Some people that prefer to be alone arent anti-social they just have no time for drama, stupidity and false people.
