Post Apoc Urban Gear Fun
Fun gear junkie thread!

Post apoc, 99.99% die off. Okay, not a fun beginning.

You need to go into the city for some reason, maybe it's new meds, or to salvage a specific item, or whatever. But you NEED to go back into a city for something.

What gear do you take with you?

You can reference a gear list you've seen on youtube, photo your own gear suggestion, make up a gear list, or whatever.

It's a 1 day mission, to the city, and back.

What do you take with you?

if I had to go the big city for me I'd like a 3 man team , have a selection of Bergan's all berghaus a 35 ltr a 40+20 and 90 ltr would take access tool's (pry bars , bolt crops , chisel and lump hammer , axe and some tin snips) a couple of days provision's (5'000 k/cals each) some com's , currently Motorola walkie talkies but hope to improve on them in the future , would be armed with pump action a 10/22 and an 1892 (10/22 moderated) optic's currently a mix of minox/bushnell and praktika...would like night vision to make a night time approach but none bought as yet , normal combat type clothing gloves /headover's scrim and face veils , first aid kits ffd's two canteen's per man with a selection of filtration eqpt(tab's/millbank bag, steri straw's) lot's of observation prior to moving in , the team would all have basic hand signalling knowledge , briefed on contact drill's and multiple emergency rv's the aim is not to fight but to achieve the task(kit/meds or materiel) absolutely no offensive action....if martial law has been enacted and there are armed troops on the ground then I'd rethink the plan maybe go solo and less visibly armed(10/22 is a folder)

If 99.99 percent of the population is dead then people are not going to be your major concern are they? there will be food and water aplenty left in the many houses/shops etc. I would use a pair of Yukon digital NVG binos, and an NVG headset and move in under cover of darkness using railway lines or another route into the city that did not use roads. I would only take the minimum amount of Food and water and try to move light and fast. I would probably carry more Water than food. Weapons!!! if everyone is dead then I'm going straight for the local TA base and get me some SA80s etc. No combat gear needed just dark clothing and a head cover, probably a balaclava. Well worn in soft trainers to help cover noise, those Army boots are not made for a stealthy approach lol. A decent sized Pack to put my needed supplies in, a set of lock picks and a manageable pair of bolt croppers to get into buildings without having to smash windows as that sort of defeats the objective of a stealthy approach. I would attempt to get to my objective in the Dark, and then lay up for the next day somewhere safe and wait for night to make my way out. I would also check the Moon phases to make sure I attempted my supply run when there is no Moon. If the population has gone then there might be some nasty chemicals and pathogens hanging about so I would take a full face mask with suitable filters in my back pack. SPARE BATTERIES FOR NVG GEAR.

any city is too far away from me to warrant wasting a huge amount of time on, if there has been rioting/protests and arson prior to the die off is there anything left? intel would be needed not a wasted journey just hoping to find stuff.

the nearest(and the only ones in Devon)cities to me are a 60 and 80 mile round trip, if i'm walking(and it would seem from TH's post that we are) that would take at least 20 and 26 hours respectively, that's a non starter-I would be away from "base" too long, anything could happen in that time, and I've probably-most definitely- got more important things to do.

my local city has free parking on Thursdays so id go then ...Tongue , by boat to the city centre then load up with all I need .
I would sit a watch the city at night looking for any light or wild dogs.

question , I also would visit my local ta for 1st class weapons but only ever spent one half day shooting a shotgun sum years back , I would be unsure wich gun fits what ammo ,how long to a greanade goes bang ....how would I get around this.

also I don't know if I could trust myself after a visit to boots.

If you got into the arsenal and that's a big if, the gun's are marked with the calibre and the ammo is marked too so no probs there , stripping and cleaning would be a bigger problem but once in there will be tool's manual's and consumables the armourer will use lying about, as for grenades they will be unprimed/unset and the detonator cap will be more than likely stored elsewhere in the armoury....grenades are not a trial and error piece of kit!!!

I see no problems with gaining access to these places midnite. The only reason they are safe now is because they are protected by Soldiers and then Police. If 99,99 of people are gone there's no one to hear you, and even less to care about what you are doing. Getting access is only a matter of time and the correct burning gear to cut the door/hinges etc.

we know from personal experience that the best specialist gun shops are most likely to be found not in the cities but in the smaller rural towns(for example Wiveliscombe-Somerset..population 2,500, has a good gun shop and they know what they are talking about)) and these will be much easier to get into than any arsenal.

very true BP there are quite a few rural Gunshops, but none of them stock the firepower you'd find in an Army base. With this scenario and only .1 of the population surviving you would have the place to yourself, and probably be one of the few living people in the country. In all reality we are looking at an extinction level event here so I would make Hay while the Sun shined.

RE: Post Apoc Urban Gear Fun
all the armouries I've seen on permanent sites have some very heavy duty physical security (steel plate doors , reinforced wall's/floor's/ceilings) tis a throwback to PIRA day's when some were burgled.
