Sand ladders and waffle boards
Too completely different things and not to be confused.

Sand ladders are just used to get out of deep soft sand. Sand ladders (SL) MUST BE USED ON THE GROUND SUPPORTED BY THE SAND. SL are made of metal be it steel or aluminium.

Waffle boards or sometimes Bridging ladders. These are usually made of fibreglass. They get there name from potatoe waffles which they resemmble. They are design to assist a vehicle crossing over a ditch or to lower the angle on a steep climb ie a 90 degree bank. The waffle boards can take the weight of a fully equipped vehicle.

Very nice. I've seen both of these in use and they are well worth having for emergencies.
