theres another side to the raider coin....
If your family is starving would you hunt, kill and eat people or would you starve?
Me and the wife are quite inventive in the kitchen and pack plenty of dried herbs etc...
The pacific islanders call us long pigs for a reason...
If I have your kids as well as my own to care for after TSHTF I will raid like only a Northern Raider can and I will get what I need to feed the kids. I will do whatever is necc for the sake of protecting our kids.
I would be a vicous and wild as a ...... as a...... erm Sabre Tooth Squirrel

I've been reading this thread for a while and trying to decide upon somethings.

The best conclusion I have come to: It's not looting if you leave a note.

You become a raider when what you have is not enough, and what you are desiring is the property of another (still living) person. Whether that is greed or neccessity. Either way, when you want more, you go and get it. When that is in someone else's posession and you take it, then you are raiding.

When would I become a raider? Early on! My preps are not enough, because I'm new to the survivalist/prepper thing. If TSHTS this afternoon, I would be out scavaging this evening if possible. I would avoid raiding, but Tesco would be in serious trouble!!!
after TSHTF any raider is likely to get shot! especially if it already belongs to someone else, put it on the other foot-if someone is stealing your stuff, what you gonna do? most likely shoot him, right??? on the other hand, i will be/already am a scavenger, if its out in the open, if its got no obvious owner then i'm going to acquire it for myself, stands to reason. having said all that after TSHTF its open season on Tesco's, Lidl, Co-op, Waitrose etc Tongue
I'd like to think Preppers would become raiders because they lack essentials and are pushed into it, raiding would be extremely dangerouse so i would have to be pretty desperate to contemplate it. Human nature being what it is there would be some people out there for whom rainding would be relished. I would scavenge when I can, and raid when I had to
So we're all agreed though. The big supermarkets are open game, right?

Remember, it's not looting if you leave a note.

"Thanks for all the stuff Mr Morrisons, Lots of Love Scythe13"

(best of all, 13 is not even the number of the house where I live. It's fool-proof)
