I guess it mean's a hell of a lot more to the French as it was the start of there liberation....problem is if you commemorated every single great feat/battle/momentous occasion we would never have any day's left to go to work.....I have watched the sun come up on Omaha beach on the 6th june about twelve years ago surrounded by little groups and singles there to pay tribute...very humbling.

Mort if your comment was aimed at me, I mustn't have expressed what I meant clearly. It was meaning our govt doesn't give a fuck about any of us & sees us a source of money only. They won't remember the fallen as the fallen can't pay taxes.

I see that the thread has already attracted some comments about "lefties" and "limp wristed liberals", pathetic, don't people realise that socialism in the UK came about as a result of working class soldiers returning home and demanding to be treated fairly ? They risked their lives, and saw thousands of their friends killed, to defend a country that treated them like shit.

They deserved better and they got it - because they were trained and numerous not because the ruling classes felt generous, but now people who have no idea what they went through condemn them as "lefties" .

The ruling classes / right wing are clawing back what the soldiers claimed, using the same tools that the Nazis used - propaganda ( pick a few minorities and blame them for all the economic problems ) and lies ( Goebbels: " tell a big enough lie, repeat it a lot, and people will accept it as truth").

It makes me so angry to read posts about "the sheeple" that are just repeating the propaganda that has been pushed at us by the corporate media, I feel like shouting at people "wake up".

Rant over. Back to normal life, prepare, watch people get brainwashed, ignore them.
