I would say Whippets or collie cross lurchers everytime but both won't make that great a guard dog but will put food on the table lol I love gsd's so sounds like a great choice :o)

Here are my 2 puppies. 1 almost 3 year old boy and a 13 month old Rottweiler. They are completely inseparable now and I think the rottie would do anything to protect him.
