If you actually check the Stoeger Site you will see an asterisk and a disclaimer that this is the maximum tune from the factory. In the UK the would be massively over the limit.

Well you could be right, all I can quote is the link I gave, and what it claims, there is no mention there or anything different.

Not that I give a damn about it anyway, I dont need to know, so it doesn't bother me...Smile

You really need a chronograph when tuning (or even owning) an air rifle.even if it goes to 13 ft lb's that's a possible five year stretch for breaking the firearms law.
If you got your rifle confiscated the police check the velocity with a variety pf pellet weight's.You can't for example tune your rifle to stay sub 12 ft lb's with a heavy pellet like Bisley Magnum as the police may use Eley Wasps and that'll cause your rifle to go over the limit.

Here's a handy calculator

http://www.airgunsofarizona.com/energyca...&grains=16

Here's a quick chart of pellet weight's i looked up (there's loads of them on the net and they make a handy reference)

http://www.airgunforum.net/articles/pelletweight.htm

So Highlanders 800fps with a 14.5 grain Eley Wasp comes in at just over 20 ft lb's

Considering our thought's on the police do any of us believe we'd get let off with a clout round the ear if we were caught with a air rifle over the legal limitConfused.Once it goes over 12ft lb's it's automatically classed as a firearm and that can get you five years.
Everyone who owns an air rifle really should invest in a chronograph.

anyone who tunes they're rifle would be bloody mad not to get one.I once had a Career 707 pneumatic .I tuned it up and chrony'd it to find that it was screaming along at 80ft lb's with Eley Magnums.
I immediately shit a proverbial brick and detuned it back to sub 12 and sold it.
The UK stopped them from being imported as they were too easy to crank up to extremely high velocity.

I forgot to add 800fps with .22 would be over the limit.I don't think Highlanders rifle is anywhere near that though.Badgerboy's probably got it right.Either that or the claimed 800fps is with .177's which is around the legal .177 velocityWink

Ignorance isn't an excuse that the law recognize. Just because a rifle is claimed to be legal doesn't mean it is.One of my HW80'S came from my local gunshop and i chrony'd it at 14 ft lb's straight from the box.
I had to cut off 3 coils to bring it down. After i tuned it i had to cut off another 2 coils to stay legal.
A chronograph is really a must have bit of kit.Not just for legal reasons,it's an invaluable tool for the gun tinkerer.

Best fifty quid I ever spent was on a combro. The only thing here is and I am sure Talon will already know this is that a rifle giving nine foot pounds at the muzzle will still drop airgun quarry at thirty yards if you can hit the kill spot. Best advice don't get hung up on power stick with accuracy and keep a spare spring and power bands for lf TSHTF because it won't matter if your gun is pushing twelve or thirty.
