Fishing, even simple fishing, is a skill set that not a lot of folks in GB possess from what I have gathered.

Fishing is the most popular participator sport in the UK. We have millions of fisherman.

But what percentage of the population does that equal?

5%/3%/20% ??

Not being critical, it is just that we also have millions of fishermen and hunters who go out once or twice a year, come back empty handed, but make up a goodly percentage of the population.

Here are some number from 2010 for you Mort:
6.1m people have been freshwater or sea fishing in the past two years
4.2m people have been freshwater fishing in the past two years
1.9m people have been sea fishing in the past year (up to 2.8m in past two years)
4.9m anglers have been fishing in the last 10 years, but not the past two

Since most anglers in the UK are course fishers, it's nearly always catch-and-release fishing.
