I would buy the house where I was gardening at last year up by Hexham.

Huge country house, numerous outbuildings, massive walled garden (which I was looking after) with ice house built into the wall, separate orchard with apples, plums, pears & cherries, huge lawn at the rear that could be used for grazing animals, a hothouse growing space fed via the fireplace & with similar floors pace to the entire ground floor of my home.

Had the river Tyne (fresh water) flowing past that could supply all water needs plus some sort of water mill power generator.

Changes I would make:

• dig a huge pond in the field opposite, stocked with some edible fish. Hopefully this would attract other wildlife aswell.
• get a secure panic room/bunker installed with some sort of ventilation system.
• some sort of solar & wind generation system installed
• underground tanks for storing fuel oil & red diesel
• secured room with shotguns, rifles, legal pistols & plenty ammo
• a moat dug all the way around so no bugger could get easy access.

Now sadly, back to reality

Once you've won the Lottery and have all that work done, if you need a gardener let me know!

Honestly mate, it was a dream job. Shame it was only a 4 month, weekend only contract. Got loads of before/after pics.

To be honest though, I think it would have to be a euro-millions win rather than ordinary lottery. The house had to be worth a couple of million alone.

I have to add, if I won the lottery, I would try and buy my main "bug out" property without delay!(and no, i'm not giving anyone the map reference-before anyone asks!)

Buy some land in East Texas or Arkansas area with water and good pasture with as much woodland as I could afford. Buy Horses!!! and look to be self sufficient in energy and most of my food exepting luxuries. I'd live off the fat off the land and count myself blessed.
