Fire Piston
Hi,
I was looking on the net for ways to make a fire and came across
something called a Fire Piston. there for sale on ebay, and you tube
show you how to make one.
I have never heard of them before, has anyone else?

RE: Fire Piston
I played with one at the Wilderness gathering the other year. It works by generating heat through the compression of air. It creates a small ember, a bit like you'd get from using a bow-drill. The ones I saw were machined out of steel. I'd rather use a fire-steel, tbh.
Find a resilient place and way to live, then sit back and watch a momentous period in history unfold.

RE: Fire Piston
One word, Ferrocerium.
aka Firesteel, Blastmatch, and Metal-Match.
Works everywhere, usually everytime, and lasts a long, long time.
No moving parts and cheap (£3 upwards).

You'll need char cloth or amadou fungus for tinder in a fire piston.
It's got moving parts, and it doesn't like getting wet.

IMO always K.I.S.S. (Keep it stupidly simple).

This is one of my favourite gear review people.

This video is about fire starting equipment.
