in my back garden i have a sewer pipe access hatch cast iron half in thick with a thick brickwall sides and is about 5ft deep would this work ?
or should i just put my phone in and see if it works ?

The emp will just go through the earth and fry your electronics. You need at least 8 ft of earth all around.

I was just going to put my stuff in the microwave in a shoe box, i tried my phone in there and it didnt ring so i thought it would be ok???

i know some people use a microwave as a faraday cage.
If you had nothing else to hand and we got the heads up that an EMP from the sun was coming then most people have excess to a microwave in the home.
I dont know if an EMP could travel down the cable into the microwave.

well ive just tried out a tinfoil faraday cage and it actually worked
put my phone in a empty malteasers box and wrapped it twice in tinfoil. no calls made it through

Did anyone remember to place the cell phone tower inside a card board box and wrap it with tin foil?
