RE: how would you get around(navigate) once TSHTF?
A lot of people do live on regular supermarket runs. Those that are after fresh (as opposed to frozen / processed / tinned and so on) who work near full time and do not grow their own or raise their own need to get to the sand supermarket that often. Majority of milk and bread bought in this country is through the supermarkets. Not a lot of people go more than four days without buying bread or milk.

Getting around post SHTF - your rivers will still flow the same way, the valleys will follow them, the coastline will still run the same way, the Sun will rise in the East and set in the West. High ground, high trees or high structures is from where you will navigate and your knowledge of the area you are in.

post SHTF, roads will soon become unusable, no one to repair them, clean out the ditches, remove fallen trees and storm damage, there are several roads around North Devon that have fallen into the river-at the moment these are being repaired but post SHTF these will not be, and i'm not talking side roads one is the main Barnstaple to Exeter road and that is shut down a long stretch in the middle- long detours in place. countryside will be also affected, without someone or something to keep the grass, weeds, shrub and trees down this will soon revert to its natural state, with the normal winter weather most fields around here are already impassible, just go in the gateway and the water and mud is over the tops of your boots.

BP, We discussed this before. It depends on the area. Our roads may get blocked but they will be useable for some time. No ditches, no trees, not by rivers...

blocked to traffic I guess...I've never seen a blocked road yet that I couldn't use on foot if plod weren't stood there stopping me....bridge out or tunnel collapse being the only really game stoppers but they can still be overcome with detours.

road blocked by traffic would be a great place for an ambush!!

Ambush is my main reason for not wanting to use roads or vehicles restricted to roads....they know where you've been and where you're going and its to easy to control your movements and create choke points and kill zones.

I was told a long time ago that the military refer to motorways and main A roads as "KILL ZONES" for a very good reason.Big Grin

which is why I use unclassified (back) roads most of the time anyway. apart from the fact motorways are boring!!Big Grin

By unblocking it when I want it. Pushing cars out of the way and starting and moving those that just got stuck. Taking the fuel from them after.

You don't write off a blocked drain. You unblock it. Same principle.Nobody will be unblocking anything during an event.

well each to his own SD, personally I would avoid such places, as I said post SHTF that's a good scenario for an ambush, unless there is no other alternative I would take a very long detour around it, I would probably avoid that road entirely as you'll possibly find its blocked further on too not just in one place.
